Diablo 4 Loot Reborn Season Guide - Odealo (2024)

The fourth Season of Diablo 4 just started, and it is probably the most revolutionary Season thus far! As the name suggests, this Season's premise is the heavy rework of the most fundamental systems in the game - the Loot. Not only have the Affxes on your Gear changed, but now you will also have new ways to improve and polish your equipment even further. Not to mention the Pit, which is a completely new end-game activity for you to engage in. The world of Sanctuary is a dangerous place now, so be sure to be prepared for it!

Overview

The spotlight of the new Season is the new Loot system. Now, Legendary Items can have up to 3 baseline Affixes, and each of them can appear as a Greater Affix, meaning it will hold 150% of the regular version's value. The list of available bonuses has been simplified by removing many unnecessary conditional modifiers, making it much easier to quickly evaluate obtained Items. If you think 3 Affixes are not really that much, then you are completely right! You can visit the Blacksmith in town to Temper any Rare or Legendary Item. Doing so will add up to 2 additional specialized Affixed on your Gear using the new Temper Manuals, which can drop anywhere in the realm of Diablo 4. Moreover, your Codex of Power now stores all your extracted Legendary Powers to be used indefinitely. After you reach the End-gameyou can start gathering the materials necessary for the Masterworking, which allows you to power up your valuable Items even more. To do that, you will need to spend some time in the Pit of the Artificers, which is a system very similar to the Grater Rifts known from the Diablo 3 series. The Seasonal content itself is very minimalistic, which can be understandable considering how many changes there are to the core gameplay. You will help the Iron Wolves Clan and build up a reputation with them for exclusive rewards.

With those changes trading your Items is now more potent than ever! Only the Tempering process binds the Item to your Account, which means you can freely Buy or Sell very potent Legendary base Items with 3 Affixes using Gold or Real Money.

The Pit of the Artificers

The most exciting is the new End-game activity. The obelisk that opens the Pit can be found in theCerrigar, the capital ofScosglen. To access it, you will need to successfully finish at least Tier 46 of any Nightmare Dungeon. Doing so will also grant you the first Runeshard, but you will still need 2 more to start your first Pit run. You can obtain them from various activities, such as Helltides, Nightmare Dungeons, or Whispers. Each run requires 3 Runeshards to start, so you should start stockpiling them as soon as possible.

The Pit is an endless dungeonfilled with Enemies. Killing enough monsters will summon a powerful Boss, which guards equally lucrative rewards. The Pit consists of 200 Tiers, the first one being equal to Tier 46Nightmare Dungeon. Delving deeper raises the difficulty and rewards considerably. To unlock higher Tiers, you will have to complete the previous one in a specifictime limit. Each floor has a 15-minute limitto defeat the Boss, but beware, as each death will add 30, 60, and lastly 90 seconds penalty, making it significantly harder to finish in time. As you progress through each floor faster, you will be allowed to progress through Tiers quicker.Completing it with at least 4 minutes remaining will unlock 1 Tier higher whilehaving 6 minutes remaining will allow you to skip 3 Tiers at once!Higher Tiers grant you more rewards but also require more powerful character to finish in time.

Completing the Pit in time is also the only source ofthe Masterwork Materials. Exceeding the limit will still reward you with regular Items, so not all is lost, but it should be avoided. There are 4 exclusive rewards: theObducite,Ingolith,Neathiron, and the Stygian Stone. The last one is unrelated to the Masterworking System, instead, it is used to summon level 200 Tormented versions of the End-game Bosses. Currently, the Material rewards from the Pit scale linearly with the Tier and aren't affected by the remaining time, but it mighthopefully change in the future. Completing the Pit with companionsmakes it much easier, but only the leader of the party gets full rewards. Other members will only gain 50% of the materials, but they don't have to spend any Runeshards. The Materials aren't tradeable, but you can always ask others to help you with gathering the necessary materials.

Tempering System

The Tempering system starts with the Tempering Manuals found everywhere in the game. It is a book with instructions for the Blacksmith NPC that allow you to add certain modifiers to your Rare and Legendary Equipment. You will need to find each Tempering Manual only once, and it unlocks its powers for the entire Season, with limitless usage. The modifiers found there are highly specialized, for example, you can improve the Damage of your specific Skill, or add a certain effect to it. There are 6 categories of modifiers similar to the Legendary Aspects: Weapons, Offensive, Defensive, Utility, Mobility, and Resources. Regular Rare and Sacred Items can have only one Tempered modifier, while the Ancestral Items can have two modifiers, from two different categories. Of course, you will not always get the modifier you want. For that reason, you can attempt to Reroll them up to 5 times, shared across 2 categories. Unique Items cannot be Tempered currently, but it may change in the future.

Each attempt will cost a different amount of materials, based on its Item Power and type:

  • Iron Chunks or Rawhide
  • Veiled Crystals
  • Baleful Fragments or Coiling Wards or Abstruse Sigils

The Tempering category can be applied to each Gear type as follows:

  • Weapons: Can only be applied to Weapons.
  • Offensive: Can be applied to Amulets, Weapons, Rings and Gloves.
  • Defensive: Can be applied to Amulets, Helms, Chest Armor, and Pants.
  • Utility: Can be applied to Amulets, Boots, Gloves, Helms, Chest Armor, and Pants.
  • Mobility: Can be applied to Amulets and Boots.
  • Resource: Can be applied to Amulets and Rings.

The perfect Item would have 3 Greater Affixes, and 2 Tempered modifiers matching your Build. Obviously, the search for such an Item may take more time than the entire Season itself. You should keep in mind that the Greater Affixes are drop-exclusive - enchanting an Item with such a modifier will turn it into a normal Affix.

Remember that you can trade any non-tempered Item with other players. Don't forget tocheck outour secure Item Marketplace here!

Masterworking System

The Masterworking System adds the final touch to your best Equipment pieces. Every Item can be upgraded 12 times, and each new level will slightly improve all their affixes. Moreover, every 4th, 8th, and 12th upgrade will boost one random Affix by a significant amount. The same modifier can be upgraded 3 times, but it could also target 3 separate Affxies. Each time the Affix receives the bonus, its color changes into Blue, Yellow, or Orange, depending on the number of upgrades. The goal here is to upgrade your most important Affix 3 times. If it doesn't happen, you can simply start all over again, but obviously, you will have to spend your resources again. Each level of Masterworking will require massive amounts of Gold, and the new Pit-exclusive Materials.

Wolf's Honor

The main theme of the fourth Season of Diablo 4 is the Iron Wolves Clan. As opposed to other Seasons, it doesn't have a greater impact on the gameplay. After a short introductory Questline in theKyovashad players will start to gainWolf's Honor Reputation. Similarly to other reputation systems in the game, you will be prompted to do various activities, such as newlyimproved Helltides,to unlock better rewards over time. It includes various cosmetic Items, Gear pieces, or bags with useful materials. The most interesting is the final reward - Resplendent Spark, which allows you to craft any Uber Unique Item of your choosing. The Gear contained in the caches is static, so you should open them as soon as possible. It can be very powerful at lower levels, but their power quickly loses value.
