I am usually a fan of this writer, I found this rather lacklustre.

Cason & Starlie forever. I loved how no matter what life threw their pay, they rolled with it and did what needed to be done. I can't wait to continue this series. I loved the banter with Starlie and her girls

I liked this but my favorite parts were the supporting characters. The relationship between the mains was really shallow and wishy washy and I didn’t buy it. I could see attraction, but then it jumped to HEA and there wasn’t much growth.

A sweet university athlete-surprise pregnancy story

I try not to read too many Academy or University themed reads, as I’ve realized I’m just too old. Often times they’re pretty unrealistic, with high schoolers who have all sorts of power, wealth, and sexual prowess no teenager possesses. This book was a pleasant surprise with how realistic it was. Starlie and Cason both behaved exactly like one would expect someome their ages to behave. Cason was the golden boy, the quarterback on the fast track to the NFL. He had a history of being the typical playboy, burning through the sorority girls, but had started to become disenchanted with that lifestyle when he laid eyes on Starlie. She was the opposite of the sorority girls - curvy, introverted, excited about things like using her metal detector at the beach. She had her own emotional baggage which definitely played a part in their relationship. He was a young adult trying to find his own way as well, saddled with the expectations of his domineering family. He found peace in the realness of Starlie. He makes a poor decision- one that you can see he struggled with, when he ghosts Starlie. He acted age appropriately, convincing himself he was actually protecting her from the judgement she would face at the hands of his family. And probably taking the easy at out for himself. Was it a poor choice? Absolutely. Did he regret it? Most definitely. Especially when he learns she is pregnant and that decision may have cost him even more. Was it believable? Also most definitely. I loved that both of them struggled with their issues at a legitimate age appropriate level. It made everything feel real and believable.

His friend and teammate Zayden is the stereotypical playboy a$$hat with an ego that must make it hard to hold his head up. If he has a book in this series, I can already say I’m not interested. There’s nothing redeemable about that personality imo. While I appreciate the youthful and age appropriate choices and behavior throughout this book, he is really that d bag that typically never grows up or suddenly respects women. ::shudder::

Editing wise: there were a number of editing issues. Some punctuation, a number of dropped or missing words. There were a few times I had to reread a sentence to figure out what was missing. It wasn’t the worst I’ve seen, but could certainly be cleaned up.

Continuity wise: In the beginning she disclosed to the reader she is lactose intolerant, when sharing how insensitive her ex was by insisting on going out for ice cream. But later, when Cason is trying to woo her, he serves her ice cream and she swooned about him remembering her favorite flavor. No mention of lactose intolerance. It was a d!ck move when the jerk ex did it, but it somehow romantic when it was Cason. There was eventually a comment about her taking an enzyme, but it was like an afterthought. As a lactose intolerant family, I understand that some still eat it knowing the consequences. But to vilify the dirty ex for it and swoon over the new flame was weird.

The ending is sort of rushed and tied up with a pretty bow. One minute they’ve decided to be together, consequences be damned… and the next is the epilogue with the baby born and his family suddenly in board. And the night before the draft. So we skip any drama with his family (which I wasn’t too sad about as they are quite awful- but we are to believe they had personality transplants) and we never learn the draft results or how they make things work.

Overall a sweet (not in the “clean” sweet trope manner- there was a bit of steam) age appropriate read. It was a well done coming of age, time to make some grown up decisions type read. It was believable, no forced or contrived drama, no OW/OM drama, no third act breakup. Just an enjoyable, believable read.

Draft Pick (Sports romance) (Wolverine Players series) (6)

Going all the way for the touchdown of love

Draft Pick is the first book in the Wolverine Players series. I was entertained from the start to the end of this book. This story may start a bit slow but it kicks into an all out blitz play before long. Cason is the typical star quarterback on his college team. He is arrogant, privileged, wealthy and flippant. Starlie is the opposite and is having to make her own way in life. They cross paths at a Karaoke bar and she sings to his heart. But with his plans for the NFL there is no room for a relationship, only a toe curling one night stand. But best laid plans have a habit of going way off track and with an unexpected pregnancy and his heart in the mix they will have to run the love play, unless it is fumbled.

This book was absolutely beautiful! Casen and Starley are everything. The banter, dry humor had me laughing I loved it. I was blushing and kicking my feet Casen is the best book boyfriend and starley makes him work for every minute while being a total bad ass her self. They were the best couple. I read this twice in a matter of a few days and I’m thinking about the next time I get to read it. Love it so much!

Good writing. It was a quick read. It started off good but for me it got a little boring throughout the book. I did enjoy the short epilogue.
