Description[]

"Power exceeding 2,500 horsepower and cornering capabilities of a jet fighter. An extreme machine for only the chosen few."

The X is the ultimate expression of extreme performance. It takes the Tomahawk’s performance capability to the limit of human reflexes and the boundary of human physiology. Even with the assistance of the G-suit, an extensive seven-month training program is required to build up the driver’s condition in order to pilot the experimental Tomahawk X at 10/10ths. Only the fittest drivers are considered for this training program.

Colossal levels of lateral acceleration are achieved with the full complement of the Tomahawk X aerodynamic system, which includes nine independently actuating aerodynamic panels. In addition to the dual-element rear wing and underbody splitter, the X is equipped with corner wing panels that deploy above each of the four wheels. There are also two rudder panels located at each rear skirt. The corner wings and rudder panels work in concert with the rear wing and splitter to create not only massive amounts of vertical downforce but also the revolutionary effect of yaw force – a laterally acting force that bends the air sideways and sails the car through the bends similar to an airplane. In addition to downforce and yaw force, the panels can be deployed in a high-drag braking mode. The panels blossom away from the vehicle to their maximum extent, nearly doubling the projected frontal area of the car in a parachute of composite panels.

In low-drag mode, all of the X’s panels are retracted and seal against the vehicle body. As the vehicle approaches terminal velocity, the remaining pneumatic pressure can be released into the sides and rear of the car to modify and decrease the size of the turbulent air wake. This further decreases aerodynamic drag in order to achieve the Tomahawk’s top speed. Output of the Tomahawk X’s V10 engine is upgraded to more than 2,000 horsepower. With fully charged pneumatic cylinders, the total AWD output of the X is increased to more than 2,500 horsepower, which can propel the Tomahawk to previously unimaginable levels of speed.

Brand Central (GT7)[]

Dodge's 3 Vision Gran Turismo cars represent the company's vision for how racing will look in twenty years. This model, the SRT Tomahawk X VGT, is the most advanced of them! Its design was inspired by the concept of challenging human boundaries. That's probably why its engine is capable of a maximum output of 2,465.5 BHP! Its designers imagined that it would run at a speed that would push the limits of human reflexes. Movable aerodynamic panels, like those found on a fighter jet, are also affixed to its body. This technological marvel allows you to take corners at speeds of up to 310.7 mph!

Performance[]

In terms of performance, this car is virtually unrivaled compared to almost any other car, not just in the entire game, but that of the entire series, in terms of nearly all its aspects, ranging from speed, acceleration, handling, braking and stability, with the capability to reach even above 650km/h on its low drag mode, and over 580km/h, normally. Strangely enough, despite these qualities, the car actually has a lower braking and handling stat than the Mercedes AMG F1 W08 EQ Power+ 2017.

The car's turning circle and velocity is faster than even the most advanced race cars, but due to its extremely violent cornering forces, even the lightest inputs could lead to over-running corners, if done carelessly with wrong timing, meaning that the margin of error, no matter what track it's being driven on, is extremely high. Its braking is also another thing - as the stopping power on this car is even near-instantaneous, so if you really want to achieve the fastest possible lap times, even managing the braking force, as well as its timing, is crucial. On lower speeds, especially on first gear, the car also has some considerable wheelspin as well. This is also by far the most difficult car to drive in perhaps the whole series, regardless if the player uses a wheel or a controller, due to it requiring advanced reactions, reflexes, timing, and knowledge of the track layout together, all without even thinking about it.

If driven well enough, the lap times can be rewarding, where an average driver who can keep it in one piece in the Nurburgring Nordschleife with minimal errors can lap the track in an astonishing time of less than four minutes at best. Coincidentally, such official online time trial challenges have been offered twice in the series' history: first as part of the car's launch Seasonal Event in GT6, and the second as part of GT Sport's biweekly Time Trials held on January 28 to February 11, 2021 (the time trial was run again on January 27 to February 17, 2022 - extended a week from the usual two due to a bug with ranking registration).[1]

Trivia[]

SRT Tomahawk X Vision Gran Turismo (1)
  • Statistically, the car holds the following records in the Gran Turismo series to date:
    • It is currently the fastest car in the Gran Turismo series to date, to the point it is the only car that can outrun the racing line in the game.
    • It is also the most powerful car in the series overall (even by standards of naturally aspirated, or to an extent, hybrid engines), as well as the only car in the series to exceed more than 2,000 horsepower.
    • The car's Performance Points ranking in GT6, 962 PP, is the second-highest in the whole series, just behind the less powerful (but lighter) Red Bull X2011 Prototype '11. Adjusted for GT7's PP system, however, the car has a PP level of more than 1,300 PP, surpassing the Red Bull X2011 Prototype.
  • The panels are activated once the car hits 19 mph (30 km/h), and retracts back into the body at around 267 mph (430 km/h).
  • In the Gran Turismo games, the vehicle's production year is tagged as 2035.
    • This makes it the third car (fifth if the Tomahawk S and the Tomahawk GTS-R are also counted) with a hypothetical production year, after the Nike ONE 2022 and the Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo.
  • While the interior of this car in GT6 is shown as a dark silhouette, a fully detailed interior for this car was later added in GT Sport. Not counting the other variants of the SRT Tomahawk, this is one of only four Vision Gran Turismo cars from GT6 to receive fully detailed interiors, the others being the Nissan CONCEPT 2020 Vision Gran Turismo, the Mazda LM55 Vision Gran Turismo and the Toyota FT-1 Vision Gran Turismo.
    • All Tomahawk models share the same interior.
  • Although it is stated that a G-suit is required to use the car, in GT Sport, as well as in GT7, the player will use their regular driver suits instead. Realistically speaking, if the driver does not use the specialized G-suit, driving the car may even prove fatal due to the sudden and extremely violent G-forces when accelerating, braking and cornering (all from extreme levels of speed), causing the driver to pass out, and can ultimately lead to death. There is no explanation as to why the required G-suit is absent from GT Sport.
    • This also affects the Tomahawk GTS-R. Despite this though, in GT Sport, as well as GT7, driving the Jaguar Vision Gran Turismo Coupé, Porsche Vision Gran Turismo or will make the player wear a specialized suit.
